Media Round-up

Hey guys, sorry it has been a while since I have been able to write one of these, the last few weeks I have literally existed in a ball of non-stop busyness only catching snippets of Poldark episodes and Love Island whilst I alternated between texting friends back about Love Island and writing up blogs I haven’t really had the chance to catch up on much else. So this week I took one gigantic step back from things, I spent more time with just myself, exercise and Dougal and let myself get lost in a few things I have abandoned lately.

Reading –  I have been reading some really good blogs of late, one that resonated with me so much is Sophie Milner at Fashion Slave about being cool, it rang so true that I felt she was writing it about me (the self-absorbed person I am), along with a post by Carrie at WishWishWish about Instagram and the repetitiveness of our posts and the desire to visit places for their ‘Instagram-ability’. This has been something I have been feeling lately as someone who loves sharing photos, I have begun to feel a bit cringeworthy seeing and sharing photos that I know people have shared 1000 times over. I am conscious that I don’t want to come across as if I am visiting places to Instagram them because it is something I would never do. I take photos of places I like when I am having a good time but I would never visit a place just for a photo to share which seems to be a growing trend at the moment and something I have not felt comfortable with.

As I mentioned not so long ago I have given the self-help, self-care books a miss of late, the irony behind the feeling I was left with just felt wrong on many levels so I went back to novels for a bit. I have just finished one which I will include in my book stack, it’s not a book I will probably recommend reading but it was exactly what I needed to get back into the swing of reading. I am now reading The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, I am so intrigued by this book. It is another I picked up from the work kitchen so I will let you know how it goes.

Television –  Being honest the only tv that gets my full undevoted attention at 9 pm each night is Love Island, I have fully been sucked into it again this year. You can tell by my Twitter feed how much I am into it all. I have also kept up with Handmaids tale and this is a series I am obsessed with, I absolutely love discussing it, it’s on Channel 4 on a Saturday night, it is still going but you can catch up on all other episodes on 40D and I really recommend that you do!

Podcasts –  I have a real thing for podcasts, I listen to them when I am getting ready in the morning or when I am trying to sleep at night. I find they are a really effective method to switch my mind off working over time. This week’s podcast favourites are Emma Gannon’s, Ctrl, Alt, Delete podcast with Matt Haig. Many of you will already know how much I love Mat Haig’s work and how he has managed to articulate what it really feels like to live with depression, a task not many people will have been able to tackle, he has helped so many people explain exactly how they feel with just one book, so this was a really interesting listen, I love Emma too so this was always going to be a winner. A podcast series I have absolutely loved was At Home with, by Lily Pebbles and Anna from The Anna Edit. This is a series whereby they both go into the homes of influential women, mainly in the beauty and blogging industry to talk about all things, beauty, lifestyle, interiors and food. They are two seriously lovely girls and I have come away with lists longer than my arms of beauty products I want to try!

Sorry, only a brief update, music wise it has been my running playlist only lately which goes from Kasabian to Whitney Houston so I don’t want to divulge any more information and embarrass myself further regarding my music choices. Films and cinema, god I feel so out of touch but I have quite a bit of time off over the summer so I am going to set some sofa/duvet nights aside to squeeze some films in. Vlogs I have really tried with, some I have loved such as Fleur De Force’s pregnancy announcement but as the whole World and their cat knows about this I have nothing further to update with. I will come back with better soon!

If you have any books, TV shows, films or blogs I should read please comment below!
